Why is Waxing and Polishing Your RV Important?
Your RV gets exposed to various elements continuously. Sunlight, dust, snow, rain, road grim, and more may damage the overall condition of your RV if not adequately attended to. These elements may oxidize the exterior paint and cause fading or general wear and tear, damaging your RV’s overall aesthetics.
Polishes and waxes basically act as a shield against these elements, protecting the fibreglass and paint by repelling these elements. Wax and polish also reduce the risk of scratches while you wash your RV. Ultimately, your RV will also have a higher resale value if you get a newer model.
When Should Wax and Polish Be Applied to Your RV?
Waxing and polishing your home away from home depends on your particular circumstances. For example, it may depend on how often you take your RV out on the road and what elements you’ve exposed the vehicle to.
You may need to complete these tasks more often if you prefer to take your family breaks close to RV beach parks, where there’s more saltwater and heavy rain exposure. However, generally, it’s best to wax and polish your RV at least bi-yearly.
How Do You Properly Wax and Polish Your RV?
Waxing and polishing your RV is easy when you follow this step-by-step guide. First, choose high-quality RV-specific wax and polish compatible with your RV’s exterior finish. Also, ensure you have a foam applicator (for the application) and a microfibre cloth handy to complete the buffing process.
Second, you must wash and clean your RV correctly by removing all the grime, dirt, and residue. It’s best to use a very mild detergent and a soft sponge to prevent scratching the surface. Third, apply the wax or polish under the shade and not in direct sunlight.
If you don’t have sufficient shade, we suggest you apply the wax or polish during a cloudy day to ensure that the wax or polish doesn’t dry too quickly. Lastly, we recommend following the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the best results.
